Adam and Chris - IMP Fundraising NYC 2021

Story

The Indigenous Marathon Project (IMP) uses the marathon as a vehicle to promote active and healthy lifestyles to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and celebrates Indigenous resilience and achievement.

This year, we have participated in the IMP Corporate Ambassador program. Participation in the program is not just about fundraising, but also raising community awareness surrounding the health of Indigenous Australians.

Our aim is to raise crucial funds for Rob de Castella's Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF). The IMF uses running to provide life-changing pathways and opportunities to Indigenous Australians, and supports inspirational Indigenous role models. One of their key programs is to send a squad of 12 young Indigenous Australians to run the New York City Marathon, with just six months of training. Participants also complete a compulsory Certificate IV in Community Recreation, Level 1 Recreational Running Accreditation, First-Aid and CPR qualifications to educate, encourage and motivate their community on the benefits of living an active and healthy lifestyle

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year the team were unable to fly to New York City in 2020. Despite this disappointment the team persevered with their training and completed Australia’s first Indigenous marathon on the 30th October in Alice Springs at midnight under the light of the full moon. Chris and Adam ran with the team and were honoured to share and support the squad achieve this goal.

Now, the runners have a new goal - to finally make it to New York City in 2021 to compete on the international stage in one of the world’s largest running events and we need your continued help to make this amazing opportunity a reality.

Please support us, and by doing so support this great cause.

Thank you
