Story

Kiya, Wiyubu, Giinagay, Yaama, G'day,
The Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF) an incredible organisation founded by 4 time Olympian Robert De Castella in 2010 in partnership with the national NAIDOC committee are running their own virtual running festival https://www.runsweatinspire.org/

I was fortunate enough to be a member of the Indigenous Marathon Project (IMP) in 2012. The project selects 12 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander from across Australia each year to train to run the biggest marathon in the world the New York Marathon. Finishing the marathon is just the start of the journey with many IMP graduates becoming leaders and advocates within their communities and showcasing the strength of our cultures and people.

As its IMP's ten year anniversary, I have decided to run 100km, 10km for every year that IMP has been running on Sunday 12th of July in Newcastle to celebrate NAIDOC week and to participate in IMF''s virtual running festival.

The 100km will include 2x 10km loops. Each loop will begin and finish at Nobbys Car Park., the first loop will be a flat 10km heading to Wickham and incorporating the Newy Parkrun course. The second loop is a lot harder heading south to Merewether and over King Edward Park.

If travel restrictions are lifted we plan on having a grad from each year to join me for a 10km loop. You to will have the opportunity to join for a 10km loop or more. You will need to register for the event in either the 10km, 1/2 marathon or marathon. But I would love the company as I take this 100km as it will be far my biggest ever challenge.

My personal fundraising target is $10,000 which will help continue the growth of IMF and its programs that support over 1500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders each year through its various programs.
