Blackmores Sydney Marathon Fundraiser

Story

Last year I conducted a Kids Cross Country Fundraiser event for diabetes, and it was such a success I decided to do it again earlier this year, this time for the Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF). We raised just over $2000, and I'm wanting to raise more funds by participating in the Blackmores Sydney Marathon on 15th September. You may remember the 'Blue Line' throughout Sydney as part of the Olympic Marathon....well this is the same one, although now a different course, finishing at the iconic Opera House.

I am participating in this event to raise crucial funds for Rob de Castella's Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF). 'Deek' was a childhood hero of mine as he conquered the marathon world in the 1980's, and he has created an amazing organisation to promote health and well-being for all Indigenous Communities around Australia.

The IMF uses running to provide life-changing pathways and opportunities to Indigenous Australians, and create inspiration Indigenous role models. One of IMF's four key programs is the Indigenous Marathon Project (IMP) which annually selects a group of 12 young Indigenous Australians aged 18-30 and trains them to run in the New York City Marathon - with just six months of training.

This opportunity gives them the courage to unearth their own sense of self-worth and pride by taking on the biggest marathon in the world. Participants also complete a compulsory Certificate IV in Community Recreation, Level 1 Recreational Running Accreditation, First-Aid and CPR qualifications to educate, encourage and motivate their community on the benefits of living an active and healthy lifestyle.

Please support me, and by doing so support this great cause.

THANK YOU

Richard

The Indigenous Marathon Foundation

The Indigenous Marathon Foundation was established in 2013 by World Marathon Champion and 1983 Australian of the year Robert de Castella. The project impacts positively on Indigenous communities Australia wide and creates community role models and local champions who influence change and promote active and healthy lifestyles for others. The project is expanding its operations within communities around the country while it looks to provide opportunity where it would otherwise not exist and your assistance directly helps us to do so.
